One of the most classic outdoor items a person can own is the porch swing. There are several different kinds of porch swings from which you can choose. These swings have been popular since Victorian times, when suitors pushed giggling girls on a swing adorned with flowers. These days outdoor swings are more practical, and hold up to four or more people. There are also loveseat size swings that are built for two, and chair swings for one occupant only. You will find them crafted from many different types of materials as outlined in this article.

Metal porch swings are usually quite vintage and retro in look and feel. Sometimes you will actually find an authentic or refurbished metal porch swing from decades ago. They are usually painted bright, eye catching colors or have brightly patterned cushions. These swings have a tendency to get squeaky and must be maintained and oiled properly, especially if they are old. When you adorn your porch with a metal swing you are sure to get attention and love the usually smooth glide of this durable swing. It is what you probably remember from your childhood, I know I do.

Today's wicker is often made from a strong resin material that looks and feels authentic but is much stronger than old-fashioned wicker. Resin wicker is also weather resistant and resistant to fading from the sun. The wicker manufactured today may not be done with old-world techniques but the new age technology gives it more strength and lasting power.
